\ Mt. Baker Modern

How does one enhance one of Seattle’s oldest, most established and grandest neighborhoods? For us, it was with a fully modern, yet tastefully appropriate, grand dame all of its own. This 4,377 sf Urban Villa sits nestled snugly into the Lake Washington hillside overlooking Mercer Island, Bellevue and the Cascades beyond.

The exterior gives a nod to mediterranean stucco, yet looking closer you see that it employs state-of-the-art rain-screen weatherproofing technology beneath imported cement board and clear cedar siding.

The interiors were designed with openness and light in mind. The main (top) floor houses the public spaces: kitchen, living and dining – all accessed via foot bridge from the upper street and 2-car garage. To eliminate visual obstructions, interior walls were eliminated, replaced by ground-to-roofline steel columns and massive fir beams. This construction allowed for a perimeter ribbon of clerestory windows, which flood the entire floor with natural light and a feeling of openness. Rich Santos Mahogany hardwoods cover the floors, tying into the fir beams throughout.

The middle level houses a 900+ square foot master suite that includes a sitting room, study, large walk-in closet tucked behind a custom mahogany headboard and spa-like master bath. Also located on this level are a large, private guest suite and laundry/mud-room.

The lower level includes two additional bedrooms, a double-sink bathroom, large media room with 7.1 surround sound, spacious sun-filled bonus room, wine cellar and lots of storage.

The dramatic entry to the upper level of the home begins with a 25 foot long Ipe bridge, lined with custom steel railings. The specially-designed front door is picture framed in thick pieces of steel C channel.
